It’s a zoo at the Andover Public Library. That’s what visitors to the library will be saying this week, as children ages 4 through 10 will participate in Imaginary Zoo Parties. The parties will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 13-14
“There will be pink flamingos on the front lawn because every zoo has pink flamingos out front, and there will be monkeys, penguins, lions, zebras and more,” according to Karen Osborn, library volunteer and event coordinator. “Of course, all the animals will be stuffed and the cages will be made from washing machine boxes.”
The children will be divided into two age groups each day, one group of 4- to 6-year-olds and a second group of 7- to 10-year-olds. Games, stories and activities will be tailored to each age group and will be a learning experience.
“For example, each child will get a sack lunch but will then find additional food items for specific animals, like bananas will be by the monkeys,” Osborn said.
Each participant is asked to make a $6.50 donation to cover costs of the party. Registration is required and is available at the library circulation desk.
This is the sixth special event party Osborn has offered at the library for both children and adults. Other parties included a Fancy Nancy, boy’s cowboy, girlfriend tea party and a winter-themed luncheon.
“I dream up the ideas for the parties, but I couldn’t do them without the help of Linda Gallaway and Diana Wittman,” Osborn said.
