Augusta's traveling teams played well at their home USSSA Fastpitch Festival tournament this past weekend.

It was a fitting way for the Augusta Chill softball team to end its final game at Augusta Softball Complex Sunday. The Chill, mostly made up of players from Augusta’s high school team, went undefeated (with one tie) to win its home USSSA Fastpitch Festival tournament Saturday. The players got to celebrate one last time on their home field. The Chill played in several grueling nailbiters to even get to the championship. Brooke Eberhardt was the winning pitcher in a pair of 1-0 shutout wins Saturday. Sidney Dey pitched during the Chill’s third 1-0 win of the day. In the final game Saturday, Augusta jumped ahead early before giving up a grand slam. The Chill scored the game-tying run in the final inning, and the game finished in a 4-4 tie due to the time limit.  Dey was the winning pitcher in the Chill’s 3-0 win to advance to the title game. There, the Chill fell behind after giving up a five-run inning. But Augusta answered with an eight-run inning of its own as the Chill went around the order, and then some.?The?Chill’s defense sealed the 8-6 win. Jacie Gorges was named tournament MVP The?Chill will play their final traveling tournament of the summer this weekend in Kansas City.
