Former Andover Central softball player Nikki Armagost was honored May 17 as a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s 2012 All-Pacific Region First Team. She was a member of the region’s second team in 2011.
The University of the Pacific junior first baseman led the Big West Conference in hitting this year with a .433 average. That ranked her among the top-16 nationally of all Division I hitters and among the top 1 percent in the country. Her average ranks seventh in the Big West and second at Pacific for all-time, single-season batting average.
In 51 games Armagost had in 71 hits, second in the conference, with 23 extra-base hits -- 18 doubles and five home runs. Her 18 doubles ranked sixth nationally.
With a .996 fielding percentage, Armagost was also one of the best defenders in the Big West and the country. She committed just one error during the season.
For the 2012 season, Armagost previously had been named to the Big West All-Conference First Team and as the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year.
The Tigers finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 34-20 and 13-8 in league play.
The 2012 NFCA Division I All-Region teams honor student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all honorees are now eligible for selection to one of three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
