In what turned out to be a crazy game of the Jayhawk Region VI Sub-Regional tournament, Tanner Lee stepped up in a tight spot on the mound.
Lee—a former Augusta Oriole pitcher who earned all-league honorable mention his senior season in 2011—earned a win for Allen County Community College, which defeated Seward County 15-11 in the opening round. Lee came in relief during the bottom of the 10th inning with two runners on base. Lee got a strikeout on way to closing out the game.
Allen County’s offense scored four runs in the top of the inning to take the lead.
Earlier in the game, Allen?County scored seven runs in the ninth, but Seward rallied with five runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 11 and force extras.
In the second round, Allen County defeated Cloud 4-3. Lee closed the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up a crucial save to send the team to the regional championship.
Coffeyville jumped ahead of Allen County in the championship game before Lee came in for relief. Lee pitched four innings, giving up his first two earned runs of the tournament. Coffeyville won 12-8.
Head coach Valis McClean said in an interview that Lee will be heavily counted on next season.
