Augusta's baseball team put a hurt on Winfield Tuesday night on the road with 4-1 and 7-0 wins. The sweep vaulted Augusta into second place ahead of the Vikings in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League-Div. III standings behind Mulvane.

Kolton Schenker turned in another strong performance on the mound for the Game 1 win. He threw two strikeouts and gave up just five hits and one walk through six innings. Logan Hiser threw two strikeouts in the final inning to seal the win.

Michael Albright had a strong day at the plate and defensively. He was 2-for-3 with a walk in the opener and drove in Dalton Wheat for the first run in the top of the third.

Joey Paul and Mason Hiser drove in runs during a three-run Oriole sixth to break the game open. Augusta led 4-0 before Winfield's Landon Fox hit a sacrifice to score the Vikings' lone run of both games in the bottom of the inning.

In Game 2, Joe Cannady shook off a slow start to turn in six shutout innings for one of his best performance's of the season. Cannady also scored a pair of runs, as did Wheat. Tyler Bond had an RBI single in the game in the fifth as Augusta took a 7-0 lead. 

Wheat came in to close out the final inning. The Vikings managed to load the bases, but Wheat got out of the jam without letting a run cross home plate.

The junior varsity team swept Winfield, as well. Ben Madison threw six strikeouts and allowed just one hit and three walks in the 4-0 win. Augusta won the nightcap 3-1.

Augusta will play its next doubleheader at Rose Hill Saturday morning before closing the regular season Monday, May 8 at Clearwater. Regionals will begin the following week.
