The Orioles finally got one in the win column.
Augusta’s girls soccer team beat Circle 2-0 Friday afternoon on the road for its first victory of the season.
“It was really a big relief for the girls,”?coach Monty Rowland said.
Freshman Jordan Kraft scored one of the two second-half goals on an assist from senior Taylor Click. Kraft later had an assist on a goal by freshman Angie Danler, who played her first game since returning from an injury.
The win is a big step for the team, which, despite playing much better soccer the past few games, only had one goal this season prior to Friday’s game.
Rowland said he had a tough talk with the Orioles at halftime after a sloppy first half. Augusta came out strongly in the second half by increasing its energy level and playing better as a team.
Augusta finished with a season-high nine shots on goal. Goalie Taylor Childers made two saves, the fewest shots she’s seen all season.
Augusta will try to get on a roll with a home game against a powerhouse team in Rose Hill Tuesday.
