Eleven El Dorado student athletes competed at the second annual Augusta Powerlifting Meet on Jan. 28 at Augusta High School.
A total of 287 lifters competed from approximately 25 different schools throughout Kansas in the bench press, back squat and hang clean lifts.
Several El Dorado athletes achieved personal bests in all lifts.
Junior Quentin Cluster took 3rd place overall in the heavy weight men’s division, recording a squat lift of 425 lbs., a hang clean lift of 245 lbs. and bench press of 275 lbs.
Junior Trace Johnson hang cleaned 235 lbs. in the 165 pound division, placing second overall.
Other notable performances were sophomore Andrew Campos, 315 lbs. in the squat lift.
Junior Kyle Call, who reached 225 lbs. in the hang clean lift.
Sophomore Seth Head lifted 260 lbs. in the back squat.
Senior Mayte Garcia reached 120 lbs. in the bench press and 115 lbs. in the hang clean lift.
“The eleven lifters that competed have been attending the after school weight program since November and have shown significant progress in athletic ability and strength,” said El Dorado coach Dustin Dooley.
The El Dorado athletes will next be competing in the Conway Springs meet on March 10.
