The Sunlight Children’s Advocacy and Rights Foundation received a $1,600 donation this week from the 13th Judicial Bar Association.

The funds were raised through a Continuing Legal Education seminar held recently. The money came from the fee to attend the seminar.

“It’s a good organization,” said Joe Penney, Bar Association president. “It’s a situation where the legal system is involved in what they do.”

He said that made it a good fit for them.

The practice of donating proceeds to an organization was started by Judge Chuck Hart. He also picked SCARF to be the first recipient, something that has continued for at least four years.

The money will go into SCARF’s general fund, and in the past it has been used to pay insurance costs.

“It has just been a  great gift for us,” said Suzi Thien, SCARF executive director.

This gift was an unexpected one.

The Bar Association will be holding another seminar in the spring and they plan to donate those proceeds to SCARF as well.
