Students in the Andover Public Schools are getting an opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of people who were directly involved with the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
Firefighters, students and business professionals from New York City, as well as an officer who was working at the Pentagon that day, are sharing their experiences through a virtual conference sponsored by Intel Education.
The conference was orchestrated by Andover Middle School eighth grade Language Arts teacher Dyane Smokorowski and a teacher in New York City. The message of the conference for students is not only to recognize the 10th anniversary of the tragic attacks, but also to remember the power of the human spirit and community citizenship in the face of a crisis.
The event is taking place today. A number of other classes in Andover will be joining in on the conference virtually as well.
