Two area teams battled it out Saturday afternoon in the seven-team Douglass Volleyball Invitational tournament with Remington placing second and El Dorado fourth at the end of competition.


Two area teams battled it out Saturday afternoon in the seven-team Douglass Volleyball Invitational tournament with Remington placing second and El Dorado fourth at the end of competition.
The Wildcats (11-18)?opened up with wins over Bluestem (25-15, 25-5) —  with a .433 kill percentage — and Conway Springs (19-25, 25-25-20, 25-14) before losing to eventual tournament champion Garden Plain  (25-17, 25-19). El Dorado then beat Wichita Trinity (25-16, 25-16) before closing out with losses to host Douglass (25-19, 25-15) and Remington (29-27, 25-13).
Rachael West had 27 kills on the day for the Wildcats, while Haley Bergen recorded 26 kills and eight aces. Lindsay Klein and Alyssa Riffel had 11 aces apiece to lead in that category on the day. Riffel also had 57 digs.
“We had a great morning winning our first two matches,”?said El Dorado coach Jane Squires. “(We just had) mental toughness and alertness issues later.
“Alyssa Riffel played great defense.”
Remington went 5-1 on the day to finish second. The Broncos recorded wins over El Dorado (Quin Tillotson and Jessica DeBaun had six kills apiece), Bluestem (26-24, 25-9; Jesse Green had 10 kills), Douglass (15-25, 25-19, 26-24; Green eight kills), Wichita Trinity (25-23, 18-25, 25-21; DeBaun seven kills), and Conway Springs (25-16, 25-14; Green 10 kills, DeBaun 11 blocks).
The only match lost was to Garden Plains (25-20, 25-13; Green seven kills).
