MAIZE—Augusta’s boys soccer team ran into a much more experienced team when the Orioles faced Maize South Tuesday night in Maize. The Orioles still played well—Augusta actually outshot Maize 19-18 in an offensive game—but the?Mavericks made the shots that mattered as they won 4-1. Dalton Wheat had the Orioles lone goal on what coach Monty Rowland described as a nicely placed cross from Ryan Albright. Wheat was able to put the ball in the net on a header. With the loss, the Orioles drop to 2-7 on the season. n Tanner Janzen and Albright each scored a goal, but it was not enough last Thursday against Valley Center. The?Hornets beat Augusta 4-2 on a wet and muddy Oriole field. Augusta’s next game will be Thursday at Campus. The Orioles return home?Oct. 5 for a game against Buhler.
