At their Tuesday meeting, Butler County Commissioners received an update from Community Corrections Director Chuck McGuire.

The 13th Judicial District Community Corrections provides criminal offender supervision services for Butler, Elk and Greenwood counties. The agency is funded by the Kansas Department of Corrections and the Kansas Juvenile Justice Authority.

According to McGuire, Community Corrections has several goals it is working on, including an increase in positive reinforcement, addressing what makes an offender high risk or not and working to reduce the number of people who have to go to jail.

In other business, the commissioners:

• approved contracts for surfacing work on county roads through the city of Leon and through the city of Whitewater.

• approved contracts for engineering work related to a bridge replacement
project on N.W. River Valley Road over the east branch of the Whitewater River and to a bridge replacement project on S.W. 60th Street over Dry Creek.

• authorized the director of public works to proceed with right-of-way acquisition related to the S.W. Boyer Road relocation project at S.W. 55th Street and related to the Bird Creek replacement project on S.E. Bluestem Road.

• approved sending out bids for purchasing cards.
