Candidates in Kansas' 1st Congressional District are having a debate at Emporia State University.

Republican candidate Tim Huelskamp and Democratic nominee Alan Jilka were to face off Monday night.

They're seeking the seat held by Congressman Jerry Moran, a Republican who's running for the U.S. Senate.

Huelskamp is a state senator and a farmer from Fowler. Jilka is a former Salina mayor whose family owns a downtown furniture store.

Libertarian candidate Jack Warner, of Dighton, also is on the Nov. 2 general election ballot but won't participate in the debate because of a scheduling conflict.
