            The Maize High Eagles spoiled Andover High’s homecoming holding on to win in a defensive struggle 7-3.

            With a 4th and 2 situation for Maize with a little over 2 minutes to play in the game the Eagles went for it to seal the win. After a run by Ty Turner and a measurement by the officials Maize gained the 1st down by mere inches.

Maize scored on their first possession of the ball game after a short punt and a 15 yard penalty that gave them prime real estate inside Andover territory. Ty Turner got the lone touchdown of the game from two yards out with 5:17 left in the 1st quarter. Turner finished the game with 84 yards on 18 carries and the score.

            Andover had trouble moving the ball all night against the Eagles. Jonathan Nye was held 59 yards on 16 carries. The Trojans had seven 1st downs all game and all of them were gained from the rush.

            The second half started much differently for the Trojans with their second possession of the half they were able to move to 1st and goal from the eight yard line from a drive that started from their own 22 yard line. The drive had. two 22 yard runs by quarterback Jordan Jones and running back Toshi Hayashi. The drive unfortunately ended with 25 yard field goal from Toshi Hayahsi.

            On Maize next possession Landon Oberg of the Trojans intercepted a pass from the Eagles quarterback Blake Pontius. The Trojans could not capitalize on the turnover going 3 and out on they next set of offensive downs.

            “We are in a tough stretch of opponents where we face three 6A teams that play well,” said Coach Lee, “Our defense has improved dramatically from the first few games of the season and they kept us in it tonight.”

The Trojans will face a tough Derby team next week.
