The Butler Grizzlies continue to win as those above them in the National Junior College Athletic Association football poll falter once they reach the top spot.
Now there is only one team above the Grizzlies as they move to No. 2 in the latest poll.
Butler coach Troy Morrell said it’s still too early to worry about the polls.
“I don’t even talk about it with them,”?Morrell said. “They know that we have to take care of our priorities each and every day. We need to focus on our goals, because there are so many things that have to happen before we can talk about a national championship.”
Mississippi Gulf Coast is the new No. 1 team after Arizona Western was defeated by Glendale (Ariz.)?20-9. Ellsworth (Iowa)?is ranked third in the nation, followed by Jayhawk Conference members Hutchinson and Coffeyville.
“This year, the pollsters are showing this conference tremendous respect,”?Morrell said. “I think due to our strong showing in the first games of the season in the battles against (the) Texas (schools) and the caliber of recruitable athletes that are in this conference. It’s great to see the representation.”
