El Dorado police officers responded to investigate a report of a suspicious person attempting to pass what appeared to be a counterfeit check at a local business Wednesday evening.

Officers took a Wichita woman into custody for further interviews.

Subsequent investigation led officers to believe an accomplice to the incident would attempt to meet the subject at a predetermined location in El Dorado.

Officers began surveillance of that area and did observe the suspect vehicle. Officers approached the suspect vehicle whereupon the suspect fled the scene with officers in pursuit.

The suspect vehicle came to a stop after crashing into two parked vehicles in the parking area of an apartment complex on Haverhill Road. The suspect left his car and attempted to flee on foot. El Dorado officers were able to apprehend the suspect a short time later.

The subject was taken into custody for conspiracy to commit a theft, attempting to flee and elude and criminal damage to property.

The arrested subject was identified by Wichita Police as a registered gang member.

The suspect, 33-year-old Wichita native Eugene A. Carter, is known to the Wichita Police Department street gang unit as “Bojo.”
