President Obama reaches out to his grandmother's classmate.

Virginia Ewalt of Augusta, a talented scrapbook artist, decided after she created a scrapbook for her Augusta High School class reunion last September, that it would be nice to make another one and share it with President Barack Obama.
Virginia was a classmate and friend of Obama’s beloved grandmother, the late Madelyn Payne Dunham.    Both women were members of the Augusta High School Class of 1940.  Madelyn eloped with Stanley Dunham of El Dorado right before graduation.  Several of Madelyn’s childhood friends and classmates, who still live here have fond memories of growing up with her in Augusta.  Madelyn was one of the members of her class who had spent all their school years in Augusta schools.
Virginia’s scrapbook contained many photos and memories of their school years, along with lots of information about Madelyn, and the last correspondence she received from the President’s grandmother.
The official White House letter with the President’s signature stated,
“Dear Virginia,
I would like to extend my deepest thanks for your wonderful gift.
Your thoughtfulness and generosity are much appreciated and I am honored to serve as your President.  As we work to address the great challenge of our time, I hope you will continue to stay active and involved.
Again, thank you for your kind gift,
Sincerely,
Barack Obama”
