Four accidents occurred in Butler County over the holiday weekend, one of which involved a fatality.

Highway 54 accident
On November 28th at approximately 10:00 p.m. Butler County Sheriff deputies responded to an accident west of Dike Rd. on Highway 54 on the Whitewater Bridge.
According to witness reports the driver of the first vehicle, Olivia Salander of Wichita, came onto Highway 54 from a dirt road approximately a quarter of a mile west of the bridge on the north side of the road. Witnesses said that the Salander then proceeded eastbound in the westbound lane, continuing west approaching a second vehicle. The vehicles collided head-on ejecting the Salander. She was triaged code blue and was transported to Wesley Hospital where the Salander was later pronounced dead at 11:33 p.m. The second driver, Jo Ann Mcbride of Augusta, was treated and released at the scene by EMS.

SW 150th collision
Another injury accident was reported on Saturday in the 15,0000 block of SW 150th. Deputies arrived to find a green Chevy Lumina had veered into the north ditch and collided with a culvert. Striking the culvert caused the vehicle to flip two times and strike a tree where finally the car came to rest. The driver of the vehicle, a twenty-eight year old female was located in the drivers seat.  She was identified as Casey N. Carver of Rose Hill. Carver said that she could not remember anything before the accident. She had multiple lacerations on her face and head.  She also said she had no feeling in her lower exteriminies. Deputies advised that it did not appear she had been wearing her seatbelt.

SW 70th accident
On Friday an injury accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m.
Deputies were dispatched to the 7000 blk of Sw 70th to a head-on collision involving a mini van and a four-door passenger car.
When investigating the accident and getting witness statements Deputies determined the the John Lynch, Augusta, was traveling westbound on SW 70th when the vehicle crossed the center line striking another car causing the first to spin around a couple of times and come to a stop. Vehicle two appeared to continue 1000 feet west after the point of impact, coming to rest in the south ditch.  D-1 was triaged code green and was transported to KMC for further treatment. There was two other passengers in V-1 and they were triaged code green and refused any medical treatment. D-2 was triaged code yellow and transported to Wesley Hospital for further evauluation. Both vehicles were towed by Daves towing.

NE 50th accident
An accident took place in the early morning hours of Sunday. Deputies were dispatched to the 4000 block of N.E. 50th street for a report of an unknown injury accident involving a subject pinned under a vehicle. Deputies found a red Ford truck that had veered off the south side of the road. Investigation of the accident shows that the vehicle was westbound at a high rate of speed and the driver lost control. The vehicle left the roadway on the south side of the road and then drove through a barb wire fence, rolling over one and a half times coming to rest on its passenger side. Deputies located a twenty-year-old white male identified as Travis Johnson of rural El Dorado Kansas. Johnson had his left leg trapped under the passenger side of the vehicle. With assistance of Butler County Rescue and EMS Johnson was extricated from under the vehicle and transported to Susan B. Allen Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Blood samples were taken at the accident site due to the suspicion of alcohol being a contributing factor to the accident.
