Dec. 5-6 at First Christian Church

The First Christian Church of Augusta,1600 State Street,  will be hosting a very different kind of living nativity this year.
From 5 to 8 p.m. on  Saturday, Dec. 5. and again on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 4 until 7 p.m. members of the congregation invite you to travel back over 2,000 years to spend A Night in Bethlehem.
A Night in Bethlehem is made up of a Marketplace  in a large, moderately heated tent.  Dramas which will be outside in the elements.  Please dress appropriately for the weather.
In the Marketplace, visitors to Bethlehem can shop in 12 different “Bible Time” stores.  Stores include the bakery, perfumery, candle maker, leatherworker, wine maker, carpenter, blacksmith, potter, basket maker, scribe, weaver, and moneychanger.  Some shops will have items for sale while other shops are only educational. 
The dramas will take visitors on a journey outside the Marketplace to first visit the Shepherds who will describe how the sky opened up and angels announced the birth of a Savior.
 Next, the Innkeeper’s wife will describe what Bethlehem is like during the time of the Census and how there just is not any more room available.
 Lastly, visitors will journey to the stable where they will find Mary and Joseph basking in the wondrous birth of their son as they share their story.  Drama tours will take place approximately every 15 minutes and should be done at the end of your time in Bethlehem as there will be no re-entry into the tent from the dramas.
Admission into A Night in Bethlehem is one canned food item or $1 per person.
 All admission money and food raised will benefit the Augusta Caring Center.  Visitors to Bethlehem must present themselves to the Census Taker before entering the tent to be registered.  As a gift to visitor to Bethlehem, the Census Taker will present 5 Roman coins to spend in the Marketplace.
 More Roman coins may be obtained at the moneychanger where the exchange rate is 5 Roman coins for $1 US. 
All shops in the Marketplace may be visited for under $3 US and we ask that you visit each shop only once.  A light soup supper will be offered to all at the conclusion of their time in Bethlehem.
