Three Butler Community College students were involved in an accident Saturday night, killing two and sending the third to the hospital.

The accident occurred at 9:18 p.m. on K-96 just west of Tyler Road northwest of Wichita.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1997 GMC minivan driven by Whitney Young, 17, of Wichita, was eastbound on K-96. She failed to maintain a single lane and overcorrected. Her vehicle left the roadway and rolled several times in the medium.

Young was killed in the accident, as was one of the passengers, Holly Marler, 18, of Maize.

Also in the vehicle was Jared Kannady, 22, of Maize, who was taken to Wesley Medical Center with injuries. He was listed in fair condition this morning.

Butler Community College has a grief counselor, Linda Clarke, on campus today to talk with students. There also is a vigil being planned.
