Before adjournment of Tuesday night’s Andover City Council meeting, Mayor Ben Lawrence shared information about what some day could be a hike-bike path between Andover and Augusta.
Butler County officials have approached both communities about managing an abandoned railroad corridor between the two communities. Lawrence said a condition for County cleanup of the former trackbed has been satisfied.
Mayors and city administrators of both communities met recently on the hike-bike path proposal.
He speculated that if such a path is a future possibility, Andover may want to extend another three miles outside its designated growth area. That could put the Andover section close to Santa Fe Lake.
The Augusta leg would go from downtown to the Santa Fe Lake Road area. This would require “shoring up” the railroad bridge across the Whitewater River, according to discussion.
