Although it has been in use for a while now, the El Dorado Dog Park is officially finished this month.

Some of the final touches to the park include putting in a parking lot, a water fountain and sidewalk.

“The water fountain is able bodied, handicapped and dog accessible,” said Kathy Daily, with the El Dorado Animal Clinic.

The water fountain funds were all private donations,, and a plaque will be made to state that the fountain is in memory of Lucky and Samantha Clark, Flo Patterson and Don Cole.

The money for the fence around the park also was paid for with donations.

“We stayed within the budget for the park,” Daily said.

The park also includes two benches in memory of Jim and Sheila Hatfield.

“The dog park is basically finished,” Daily said. “It’s amazing. John Scanlon (director of parks and recreation) just stood there the other day and looked around said, ‘wow, we did it.’

“It was a joint effort with all of the dog (lovers) community, and the city was easy to work with.”

But they’re not done yet.

“We’re still raising money because we would like to put in some agility equipment,” she said.

Donations can be made at the City Building, the El Dorado Animal Clinic or Waggin’ Tails.

Daily felt the park has gone over well.

“We’ve gone through over 750 poop bags,” she said.

That has been since the park’s grand opening May 25.

“That is a lot of dogs,” she said.

They will have another dog party this fall, but plans are still being made.
