It was an afternoon of fun, bowling and pizza as a number of groups came together for the first of several Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl For Kids Sake events.

The first group to bowl in El Dorado took to the lanes Sunday afternoon, after the two Saturday events had to be canceled due to the weather.

“It’s been a great day so far,” said Cathy Cuckler, Big Brothers Big Sisters case aid.  “It’s for a good cause.”

Eleven teams were taking part in Sunday’s event.

The top fundraiser for the day was Roger Hinnen, who raised $460 in pledges, although he said it was a slower year than previous years. He and his family created their own team for the event, in which they participate each year.

“We just really enjoy having a good time and raising money for a good cause,” he said.

Big Brothers Big Sisters will try to reschedule the first two events and still have some openings in the upcoming events scheduled for Butler County. Future bowling events will be at 3 p.m. April 4 at the Wichita Northrock Lanes and 2 p.m. April 5 at the El Dorado Prairie Bowl.

The final bowl will be held at 3:30 p.m. May 5. This is the Kids Bowl and is held for El Dorado elementary students, although they will work with any other children’s teams who want to compete in that event. It also is held at Prairie Bowl.
