The El Dorado freshman/sophomore football team ended their season on a winning note with a 14-6 win over Circle Monday evening at Galen Blackmore Stadium.

In the first quarter, the Wildcats moved the ball down to the Circle 1-yard line, but a pair of quarterback sacks by the T-Bird defense prevented the ‘Cats from scoring. In fact, it looked as if the first half would end in a scoreless tie before El Dorado’s Michael Hysell broke loose on a sweep around the left side for a 35-yard touchdown run on the final play of the half, giving the Wildcats a 6-0 lead at the break.

The score would remain 6-0 until the fourth quarter. The El Dorado defense stopped Circle on downs in their own territory, and a 30-yard keeper by quarterback Garrett White set up a 10-yard touchdown pass from White to Dale Nuckolls, giving the ‘Cats a 12-0 lead with under four minutes to play.

Circle scored with 2:30 to play on a touchdown reception by Adam Ronnebaum. El Dorado recovered the ensuing onside kick but would eventually turn it over on downs deep in Circle territory. Then, with a minute to play, the defense came with a big play, as Garrett Runnion sacked the Circle quarterback in the end zone for a safety to make it 14-6. The ‘Cats recovered the ensuing free kick and ran out the clock.
