The Remington High School girls’ cross country team qualified for the Class 3A State Meet in Wamego next Saturday, as did the Berean Academy boys’ and girls’ teams in Class 2A.

The Bronco girls, which finished second at 3A State last season, finished third at Saturday’s Regional Meet at Southeast of Saline High School in Gypsum. Remington finished with 70 points, placing behind Belle Plaine (32) and host SE-Saline (58). The Broncos’ effort was led by Morgan Trible, who finished second with a time of 16:21.28. Belle Plaine’s Amanda Callaway, ninth at State last year, won the meet with a time of 15:32.98. Douglass finished ninth with 197 points.

The Remington boys finished ninth in the team standings with 237 points. Douglass was 12th (333) while Bluestem finished 13th (400). The top three teams were SE-Saline (70), Hutchinson Trinity (85) and Ellsworth (88).

Berean swept the team titles at the 2A Regional Meet at Meade. The Warrior boys’ team won with 39 points. Johnson-Stanton County and Peabody-Burns each finished with 54 points, with Johnson taking second on a tie-breaker. Josiah Busenitz led three Warriors in the top 10, placing fourth in 18:17.57, with Arlan Newby right behind in fifth (18:22.78). Daniel Claassen finished eighth in 18:45.45.

The Berean girls won the team title with 35 points despite not placing a runner in the top 10 individually. The majority of the top finishers came from schools not fielding full teams. Berean edged out Oxford (42) and Johnson-Stanton County (44) for the team title.

The State Meet will be held at Wamego Country Club Saturday. The 3A girls’ race will begin the action at 9 a.m. The 2A girls will run at 11:30 while the 2A boys’ race will start at 12:30.
