The Butler Community College women’s soccer team closed out its regular season with a 4-0 win in Chanute over Neosho County Wednesday night.


 

 


The Butler Community College women’s soccer team closed out its regular season with a 4-0 win in Chanute over Neosho County Wednesday night.

The Lady Grizzlies finished 15-4 overall, 10-2 in Region VI and 9-2 in the Jayhawk Conference. Butler finished fourth in the conference behind Barton, Hutchinson and Johnson County. The Lady Grizzlies drew the fourth seed in this week’s Region VI playoffs and will have a rematch with fifth seed Neosho in El Dorado Monday at 2 p.m. The four first-round winners will advance to the Region VI semifinal and final rounds at Topeka’s Hummer Sports Complex next Saturday and Sunday.

Freshman forward Sade Humphrey was named Jayhawk Conference Co-Player of the Week for Oct. 13-20. The Salina native broke the Butler single-game record with six goals in a 13-1 win at Independence Oct. 15. Humphrey also had two assists in that game for a total of 14 points, also a Butler single-game record. Humphrey leads all conference players with 25 goals and 18 assists for a total of 68 points on the season.

Humphrey shared the honor with Johnson freshman goalkeeper Kelly Voigts. The Olathe native led the Cavaliers to a 2-0-1 mark on the week, including a 9-1 win over Cowley and a 6-0 win over Blue River, her third shutout of the season. She capped the week with a 2-2 tie against Hutchinson.
