The Augusta Orioles sub-varsity teams closed out their 2008 football campaigns on sad notes after getting beaten by Andover at Hillier Stadium to close out the season.

The Orioles’ junior varsity team had their chances but ended the season winless in seven games after a 12-7 loss to the Trojans.

Augusta had the ball inside the Andover 20-yard line three times in the first half, but came away with no points.

The Trojans were able to make two long-distance plays for both of their touchdowns before the Orioles got on the board on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Alec Hess to Shane Smith in the fourth quarter.

The Orioles’ freshman team was routed 40-6 in their game. Augusta’s only score in the contest came in the third quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Joey Hasting. The Orioles finish the season 1-6.

Augusta’s freshman-sophomore victory over Circle last week doesn’t count on either sub-varsity team’s record.
