Phyllis J. Griffin, 79, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born April 10, 1929, in Hamilton, daughter of the late Ernest Clyde and Lena May (Hacker) LaRue. She was a 1947 graduate of El Dorado High School.  On March 12, 1953, she was united in marriage in El Dorado to John S. Griffin, who preceded her in death on April 10, 1998.

Phyllis was a switchboard operator at Southwestern Bell from 1947 to 1953.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking and spending time with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to fish and her weekly trips to the beauty shop. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City. 

She is survived by five children, Danny Griffin (wife Carol) of Jefferson City, Lesa Litty (husband Chris) of New Bloomfield,Samuel Griffin (wife Diane) of Burns, Gerald Griffin (wife Nancy) of Choctaw, Okla., and Diana Wieberg (husband Richard) of Cumming, Ga.; two brothers, Jack LaRue of Waverly and Jim LaRue of El Dorado; one sister, Peggy Martin of Ozawkie, Kan.; 10 grandchildren, Travis Griffin (wife Valerie), Justin Griffin (wife Katrina), Ben Griffin (wife Kendra), Kate Gaines (husband Ryan), Amanda Jackson (husband Stephen), Brandi Cannizzaro (husband Pete), Shane Wieberg (wife Maria), Bethany Litty, MaKayla Litty and Whitney Griffin; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Dumas officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
