Individuals and families living near Fourteenth & Spencer on the city’s east side will be celebrating the community partnership with safety officers during a National Night Out block party scheduled for Monday, Aug. 4.
This program focusing on Neighborhood Watch activities is in its 25th year.
This evening time of fun is promoted as a “Going Away Party for Crime and Drugs will begin at 7 p.m. and conclude around 9 that evening.
The local guest lists includes Augusta safety officers, fire officers, Basco the Police Dog, Chip Shot the Clown, Miss Kansas Emily Deaver,  Augusta Drumline, and the Community Emergency Response Team.
The event is designed to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
National Night Out activities have been held in this community during the first week of August and block parties have been at held at various times during the year.
The national August observance is once a year.
Augusta Safety Department has been part of such activities throughout the year, when time and schedules permit.
