Drivers will be noticing work starting on West Central next week.

The project will repave central from School Road to Haverhill Road and put in turn lanes and storm sewers. The left turn lanes will be cut into the medians, taking out the ditches.

“This is a project we’ve been working on quite a few years,” said Scott Rickard, assistant city engineer.

Phase I of the project will consist of closing the inside lanes of Central in both directions. This phase will include work on the existing grass mesdians, installation of storm sewer, and paving inside the medians. The medians will be filled in and left turn lanes will be installed at the current locations.

Phase II of the project will entail closing the outside lanes to complete storm sewer work. Entrances to businesses will be maintained at all times during construction.

Phase III will be a complete pavement mill and overlay of the asphalt from School to Haverhill.

The contractor anticipates that the project will be completed by December, bearing weather delays.

The city-at-large portion of this project will be $806,953, with $1,000,000 being provided through state funding. Cornejo and Sons has the contract.
