The Augusta Orioles football schedule for the 2008 season has been finalized according to Augusta head football coach Steve Pazzie.

The Orioles have been placed in a district which includes El Dorado, Andover and Circle.

“I think we’ll fit in pretty well,”?Pazzie said. “It will be competitive. The one we were in last year with both Andovers and Rose Hill was extremely competitive.

“We feel with the kids we have coming back — and the new kids who are sophomores — that we can compete for one of those (playoff) spots in that district.”

Due to the restructuring of the districts, Andale and Harrisonville, Mo., both state champions last year, are gone from the schedule.

In their place are Class 5A Arkansas City and Class 3A Riley County.

“We’ll open up on the road at Riley County, then play at Rose Hill,” Pazzie said. “We don’t open here until Week 3 against Buhler.”

Also on the Orioles’ schedule are Andover Central and Mulvane.

Although the start of the season isn’t for more than four months, the Augusta, Pazzie said the start to get everyone ready for the first game against the Falcons starts very soon.

“It’s closer than we want to think right now,”?Pazzie said. “Things are closing down in a lot of things right now, but it’s going to be cranking up for us pretty quick.”
