The Augusta Middle School track teams recently competed in the Richard Lawrence Relays at Wellington. Other teams competing in the meet include Maize South, Andover Central, Valley Center, Derby Red and host Wellington.

The Bluejays’ eighth grade boys team finished third out of six teams in its competition with 80 points.


Zach Budda won the only individual event for Augusta with a leap of 4-10 in the high jump. The 4x200 relay team of Kaleb MacNicol, Alex Clausing, Ryan Albright and Colton Robinson won the event in a time of 1:47.23; and the sprint medley relay team of Robinson, Albright, Tanner Dennett and Cody Smith also won in a time of 4:19.67.


Others who placed in the top four individually included MacNicol (second, 100, 12.09; fourth, 200, 25.62); Albright (third, 800, 2:21.20); Smith (fourth, 1,600, 5:40.94); Robinson (second, shot put, 37-11 3/4); and Clausing (fourth, 400, 1:02.39; fourth, long jump, 16-6).


The AMS eighth grade girls team finished fifth with 35 points. High placers in individual events included Caitlin Sudduth (third, 100 hurdles, 17.40) and Amber Yoder (fourth, 200 hurdles, 33.22; fourth, 400, 1:14.12). The 4x200 relay team also finished fourth in a time of 2:07.51.


The Augusta seventh grade girls placed fourth with 76 points.


Courtney Phillips won two events on the day (200 hurdles, 32.78; discus, 77-8); while Taylor Childers won the shot put (31-10). The 4x200 relay team of Monika Wright, Alia Khalidi, Maddie Becker and Phillips also won in a time of 2:06.92.


Other high placers in individual events included Kalie Robinson (second, discus, 72-4), Khalidi (third, 200, 29.72), and Becker (third, high jump, 4-4). The 800 sprint medley team of Khalidi, Mackenzie Rosen, Robinson and Becker also placed third in a time of 2:24.84.


The Bluejays’ seventh grade boys team was sixth with 26 points. Colby Willis placed third in the discus (85-8); while the 4x200 relay team of Tanner Martindale, Reese Willis, Quentin Miller and Caleb Dunn was third at 1:59.97 to lead the team; while the sprint medley relay team of Colby Willis, Miller, Martindale and Brett Hamilton was second at 2:05.63.
